Excellent article and observations by Scott! I am on the side of trust but verify with the apps and technology I choose to use. And with so many choices being presented these days it is hard not to be suspicious of the underlying intent of "free". Quite often I choose to pass and not assume that the technology developer have security in mind. And with the Internet-of-Things exploding, I agree with Scott that security awareness needs to be on everyone's mind. This position may be due to a career spent in the technology field. For the remaining 99% of consumers, I would advise the age-old saying of "Buyer beware."
